In my momstown house, hockey is a year round activity - whether it's on ice, in the basement with mini-sticks, or out on the driveway! So why not throw a hockey-themed birthday party?
Crafts
For a break in the hockey action crafts need to be easy and fun! Pick up plain white ministicks and NHL stickers, and have kids decorate their own. They can play a game of ministicks right away - no glue to dry! If they are feeling a little more crafty, kids could make a felt hockey magnet, or create their own mock Stanley Cup trophy.
Print out some colouring sheets - NHL logos are always a hit, since everyone has their favourite team!
Activities
Kind of a no-brainer - a hockey game! Rent a community hall or gym for more space, or use your basement or driveway for the action. I suggets having some structure to keep the kids engaged - start with some skills and drills and then let them have a 'real' game.
Decorations
We stuck with the NHL theme our our Hockey Party or you could do Team Canada or even a local minor hockey theme! Use colour to decorate by sticking to the birthday child's favourite team colours for everything. Get the kids to act as 'decor' by asking them to wear a hockey jersey to the party too!
Food & Cake
This birthday boy is a Vancouver fan, so we incorporated a Canucks stick and puck into the cake this year!
Here's another idea from a momstown mama... for a slightly older birthday boy!
Loot Bags
Kids took their personalized mini-sticks are a great gift to take home. Other ideas are hockey cards, hockey stickers, a mini Stanley Cup figurine or a mini goalie mask.
